Very Truly Yours, Davenport

Very Truly Yours, Davenport

On Purpose. For Money? Tour Conclusion.

The “On Purpose. For Money?” tour ended around 10 am Tuesday morning, our last leg of the trip delayed due to a minor accident involving our equipment trailer in Houston. The last ten days have been unbelievable and some of the most memorable of my life. Our traveling companions, Falcon Buddies, only got better with each set, throwing in all sorts of great auditory surprises along the way and pulling out material that even I haven’t heard before. It was a pleasure to travel with such great and talented gentlemen.

Along the way the two bands played with a bunch of other great acts. The bands we met in Fayetteville, Kansas City, Ronny’s and Brown Rice in Chicago, and Carbondale were truly impressive. We’ll have names and media from them up shortly.

I am incredibly grateful to all the friends and family who helped us along the way, lending us a place to sleep and providing some of the best meals of my life. Family in Arkansas gave us a great place to sleep and we awoke to one of the best breakfasts of my life, complete with incredible homemade grits. Grandparents outside Davenport provided a much needed rest after our second all-nighter from Kansas City and the best corn of my life from a local farmer’s market. Our Chicago home-base included another great breakfast, lots of beer and a very cute dog, Annie. And our last day brought two small naps, one in Seth’s hometown of Texarkana and the last of the tour in Katy, TX, where we owe a tremendous thanks to friends there for offering help and hospitality while we were finding a way to get our gear back to Austin.

Sadly, our week-long tour was derailed in Houston three blocks from our last show at Super Happy Fun Land. While driving on a residential street our trailer hitch came unattached from the frame of our van, causing the trailer to break off and rear end the van. Luckily no one was hurt and our gear was fine, but Donald and I had a little scare in the very rear of the van watching our trailer violently crash into us. The old Chevy was and is truly a treat to drive, but the old frame had just a little too much wear and tear and gave out on our last leg. The hitch was ripped off the frame, bolts, nuts and all. We got the van and trailer off the road and waited for a few hours for help to arrive. Thanks to the band from SHFL for offering a hand while we were stranded. Our trailer was towed to Katy and we waited for an older brother to drive from Austin with a truck for the trailer and get us back home. Another great thanks is owed to him.

The whole trip was inspirational and humbling. We got to play music in new places and get to meet a lot of great people along the way. We’re gathering up lots of media from cameras, a camcorder, two iphones and more and hope to compile a documentary as well as posting more on the blog, facebook, myspace and other avenues of communication. Stay tuned for more…
